hi! My name is Paul Longtine, and I maintain this site to toss thoughts and things into the void. I have a passion for the interconnected web of mathematics and sciences which support modern information systems. I have interests in programming language theory, distributed systems, embedded systems, instruction set architectures, and Unix-like operating systems.

I am currently employed by Synadia, the company behind NATS.

All opinions are of my own.

...what does 'banna' mean?

banna is derived from my first alias, bannanalord, that I had created when I was a kid. It was inspired (or copied?) from a youtuber named bananapielord who made the let's play series1 that introduced me to Minecraft.

This turned out to be a good thing: I learned about digital logic and started building logic gates with redstone (an in-game mechanic) and found a community2 of players using Minecraft redstone to build computer architectures that could run aribtrary programs. Interacting with computer architectures in a virtualized 3D space nutured a deep appreciation for computing with an enduring urge to chase bugs and wire together systems of sufficent complexity.

  1. These videos, specifically. I do not endorse anything on that channel.

  2. This community I joined was at the time called the Redstone Development Foundation (RDF), but had forked into the Open Redstone Engineers (ORE) during my time when I was active in the community.
